Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a method for producing an organic film having a suppressed occurrence of focal conic defects and uniformly having large domains when the temperature is lowered at a rapid rate of 2°C/min or higher. The present invention also addresses the problem of providing an organic film and a liquid-crystal composition. This method for producing an organic film has a step for forming a coating film of a liquid-crystal composition containing a triphenylene derivative and a fluorine-based alignment agent, a step for heating the coating film to a temperature at which the triphenylene derivative moves to an isotropic phase, and a step for lowering the temperature of the coating film after heating until the triphenylene derivative moves to a columnar liquid-crystal phase to form an organic film. In the organic film, triphenylene rings derived from the triphenylene derivative are oriented in the in-plane direction of the organic film, and the organic film shows a peak derived from a periodic structure of a column of stacked triphenylene rings in the in-plane direction of the organic film in thin film x-ray diffraction measurement.
