Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for producing a polymer nanocomposite, wherein after expanding an interlayer space of a layered inorganic compound using an organic onium salt, a radical polymerization initiator having a group represented by general formula (1) is immobilized on the interlayer surface of the layered inorganic compound via a covalent bond, and surface-initiated radical polymerization is carried out from the immobilized polymerization initiator in a monomer.  Preferably, as the radical polymerization initiator having a group represented by general formula (1), one wherein at least one of X1-X3 of the formula is a chlorine atom, or alternatively one wherein R1 of the formula is an alkylene group having 1-25 carbon atoms or an alkenylene group having 2-25 carbon atoms, each may be interrupted by an oxygen atom or an ester group, or substituted by a phenyl group, is used. (In general formula (1), R1 represents an alkylene group having 1-25 carbon atoms, an alkenylene group having 2-25 carbon atoms, a cycloalkylene group having 5-8 carbon atoms or an arylene group having 6-12 carbon atoms, and each group may be substituted by an alkyl group having 1-18 carbon atoms, a phenyl group or a cyano group, or may be interrupted by an oxygen atom, a carbonyl group, an ester group, a phenylene group, an amide group or an imino group, and the substitution and interruption may be combined; and X1-X3 each independently represents a halogen atom, a hydroxy group, a methyl group, an ethyl group, a methyloxy group or an ethyloxy group.)
