Abstract:

The present invention addresses the problem of providing a method for efficiently producing an N-alkylmaleimide-based polymer excellent in terms of optical property, heat resistance, and mechanical strength. The method for producing an N-alkylmaleimide-based polymer according to an embodiment of the present invention is characterized by suspension-polymerizing a monomer mixture comprising 20-100 wt% N-alkylmaleimide represented by general formula (1) and 0-80 wt% copolymerizable monomer(s) in an aqueous medium using an oil-soluble radical-polymerization initiator in the presence of at least one dispersant selected from the group consisting of nonionic compounds having no hydrogen atom bonded to an oxygen or nitrogen atom, poly(acrylic acid) salts, and polyalkylene glycols.　(In general formula (1), R represents a C1-C12 linear alkyl group, a C3-C12 branched alkyl group, or a C3-C6 cyclic alkyl group.)
