Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for producing propylene, which comprises a step for subjecting a hydrocarbon starting material containing more than 50 mass% of ethylene to catalytic conversion using a zeolite-containing catalyst while feeding water to the reaction system. The method for producing propylene uses a zeolite-containing catalyst wherein the zeolite satisfies the following conditions (1) through (3). The zeolite: (1) is an MFI-type zeolite, (2) has a zeolite crystallization index as determined from the X-ray diffraction spectrum of 3.3 or greater; and (3) has a silica/alumina (SiO2/Al2O3) molar ratio of 20 to 300.
