Abstract:
There has been a need for a method for producing a purified phthalonitrile, by said method a high-purity phthalonitrile being able to be stably obtained with high yield for a long period of time, and a method for purifying a phthalonitrile. The present invention provides a method for producing a purified phthalonitrile, said method being characterized by comprising: a production reaction step wherein a reaction product gas containing a phthalonitrile and a cyanobenzamide is obtained by reacting ammonia, oxygen and xylene in the presence of a catalyst; a collection step wherein a collection liquid is obtained by bringing the reaction product gas into contact with an organic solvent that has a lower boiling point than the phthalonitrile; a separation step wherein the collection liquid is distilled by a high boiling point fraction-separating column, thereby obtaining a gas that contains the phthalonitrile and the organic solvent from the column top, while obtaining a bottom liquid that contains a cyanobenzamide from the column bottom, said bottom liquid having a phthalonitrile content of 90% by mass or less; a combustion step wherein the thus-obtained bottom liquid is subjected to combustion, while being kept in a liquid state; and a rectification step wherein a purified phthalonitrile is obtained by removing the organic solvent from the gas that has been obtained from the column top.
