Abstract:
Provided is a method for producing reduced iron by heating an agglomerated material comprising a substance containing iron oxide and a carbonaceous reducing agent in a shifting furnace hearth-type heating furnace, said method enabling the production of reduced iron while preventing the occurrence of the explosion of the agglomerated material upon heating. An agglomerated material fulfilling any one of the requirements mentioned in items (A) to (C) below is used: (A) an agglomerated material in which the molar ratio of the amount (mol) of Cl contained in the agglomerated material to the sum total of the amounts (mol) of K2O and Na2O contained in the agglomerated material (i.e., [Cl/(K2O+Na2O)]) and the amount (mass%) of CaO contained in the agglomerated material satisfy a predetermined relationship; (B) an agglomerated material in which the above-mentioned molar ratio [Cl/(K2O+Na2O)] and the amount (mass%) of CaO contained in the agglomerated material satisfy a predetermined relationship and the degree of basicity (CaO/SiO2), which is calculated from the amounts (mass%) of CaO and SiO2 contained in the agglomerated material, is 0.30 or more and less than 1.30; and (C) an agglomerated material in which the above-mentioned molar ratio [Cl/(K2O+Na2O)] and the amount (mass%) of CaO contained in the agglomerated material satisfy a predetermined relationship and the amount of volatile carbon contained in the agglomerated material is less than 1.70 mass%.
