Abstract:
Provided is a tool for machining, which is prevented from adhesion failure of a coating film at the interface between a layer containing titanium and an alumina layer. A method for producing a tool for machining, wherein a plurality of coating films are formed on the surface of a base (21) by a physical vapor deposition method (PVD). This method for producing a tool for machining is characterized by comprising: a first layer formation step wherein a first layer (22) that contains a nitride or carbide of titanium is formed on the surface of the base (21); a first barrier layer formation step wherein a barrier layer (23) that covers the surface of the first layer (22) is formed; and a second layer formation step wherein a second layer (24) that contains aluminum oxide is formed on the surface of the barrier layer (23).
