Abstract:
A method for producing an unsaturated aldehyde and an unsaturated carboxylic acid, wherein an olefin is catalytically oxidized in a gas phase by a molecular oxygen or a molecular oxygen containing gas by the use of a fixed bed tubular reactor packed with a catalyst, to produce a corresponding unsaturated aldehyde and unsaturated carboxylic acid with stability for a long period of time and in good yield, characterized in that (A) as the catalyst, use is made of two or more types of composite oxide catalysts being represented by the following formula (1): MoaBibCocNidFeeXfYgZhQiSijOk [wherein X represents Na, K, Rb, Cs or Tl, Y represents B, P, As or W, Z represents Mg, Ca, Zn, Ce or Sm, and Q represents a halogen atom] and being different in the ratio of the content of Si to that of Mo, (B) the reactor is divided in the direction of the axis of the reactor tube into a plurality of reaction zones for packing catalysts, and (C) the above two or more types of composite oxide catalysts are packed in respective said plurality of reaction zones in such a manner that the ratio of the content of Si to that of Mo become greater from the inlet of the material gas towards the outlet of the product.
