A method for producing a vinyl alcohol resin having a moisture content of not more than 10 wt% by performing multistage dehydration using a kneading machine.  Consequently, a large amount of water-containing vinyl alcohol resin can be efficiently dehydrated and a vinyl alcohol resin having a low moisture content of 10 wt% or less can be easily obtained.  As a result, the production cost can be reduced, and thus the method is commercially advantageous.
