Abstract:
The present invention is a method for producing a water-absorbing resin composition containing: a cross-linked polymer (A) having as structural units one or more monomers (A1) selected from the group consisting of water soluble unsaturated monocarboxylic acids (a1) and salts thereof; one or more monomers (A2) selected from the group consisting of water-soluble unsaturated dicarboxylic acids (a3) and salts thereof; and a cross-linking agent (b). The method comprises: a polymerization step for polymerizing a monomer composition including the monomer (A1), the monomer (A2), and the cross-linking agent (b) in the presence of a chelating agent (c) to obtain a hydrous gel including the cross-linked polymer (A); and a drying step for drying the hydrous gel. The present invention can provide a method for producing a water-absorbing resin composition that, while using a raw material derived from plants and having low polymerization reactivity, has about the same water absorption capability under a load as that of a water-absorbing resin composition composed only of a petroleum-derived monomer, that is, acrylic acid.
