Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for producing a complex of an electric stone and silicon oxide, which comprises the steps of hydrolyzing tetraethoxysilane in the presence of a basic catalyst, conducting a sol-gel reaction to produce a polymeric initial condensation product, mixing a microparticle of the electric stone with the initial condensation product, granulating the mixture, drying the resulting granule, and firing the dried granule at a temperature of 250 to 650°C. In the complex, the ratio of the electric stone to silicon oxide is 4:96 to 76:24. The polymeric initial condensation product has an average molecular weight of 200 to 300. The complex has a surface area of 29 to 460 m2/g as measured by a BET surface area determination method. When the complex is added to an aqueous medium and mechanically stimulated, silicon oxide which is slightly water-soluble forms a stiff coating film on an article.
