Abstract:
Metallic sodium sealed in an engine valve for use in an internal combustion engine such as an automobile engine preferably has high purity, but little attention has conventionally been paid to organic solvents remaining within micropores in the surface of the metallic sodium. In this method for purifying metallic sodium, metallic sodium (60) containing an organic solvent within micropores in the surface thereof is accommodated in a sealed melting tank (12) and the organic solvent in the metallic sodium is vaporized and removed by heating and decompression.
