Abstract:
A method of recovering a water-soluble organic substance which is an organic substance readily soluble in water, e.g., an alcohol or a ketone, which comprises: a first step in which raw water containing a water-soluble organic substance and an inorganic acid is neutralized by adding thereto at least one member selected among hydroxides, oxides, carbonates, and hydrogen carbonates which each reacts with the inorganic acid to form a salt whose solubility in the water-soluble organic substance to be recovered is 1 mass% or lower, the at least one member being added in a stoichiometric amount based on the inorganic acid contained in the raw water; and a second step in which at least one salt having a solubility in water of 30 mass% or higher and a solubility in the water-soluble organic substance to be recovered of 1 mass% or lower is added after the first step to thereby separate the water-soluble organic substance from the water.
