Disclosed are a method for reducing power consumption, and a mobile terminal. The method is applied to a mobile terminal at least supporting a first network standard and a second network standard, and power consumption of the first network standard is higher than power consumption of the second network standard. The method comprises: monitoring communication data of the mobile terminal; determining, according to the communication data and a determination standard preset for the communication data, whether the mobile terminal is in a high-speed traffic scenario; when the mobile terminal is in a high-speed traffic scenario, the mobile terminal accessing a first mobile network corresponding to the first network standard; and when the mobile terminal is not in a high-speed scenario, the mobile terminal accessing a second mobile network corresponding to the second network standard.
