Abstract:
According to the invention, a method and a system are proposed with which the risk of metastasis formation in cancerous diseases can be reduced. In the method for reducing the risk of metastasis formation in cancerous diseases, tumour cells circulating in the blood of a human or animal patient are captured from the blood stream and made harmless, in particular removed and/or damaged and/or killed. The system according to the invention in which tumour cells circulating in the blood of a human or animal patient (P) are removed from the blood circulation involves: a means for forming a tumour cell retention area provided with an inlet for blood flowing in from the circulation of the patient (P) and with an outlet for blood flowing out and conveyed onwards in the circulation of the patient, said retention area being in a hollow space through which the patient's blood flows and which is integrated in the circulation of the patient (P), and a means for capturing circulating tumour cells and holding them back in the retention area.
