Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for regenerating a positive electrode active material and a positive electrode active material regenerated therefrom, the method comprising the steps of: (a) recovering a positive electrode active material by heat-treating a waste positive electrode, comprising a current collector and a positive electrode active material layer coated thereon, in air at 300 °C to 650 °C; (b) washing the recovered positive electrode active material with water containing ionic solid salts; and (c) adding a lithium precursor to the washed positive electrode active material and annealing the washed positive electrode active material in air at 400 °C to 1,000 °C. The present invention has the effect of providing: a method for regenerating a positive electrode active material, wherein residual F components generated on the surface of the regenerated positive electrode active material after the heat treatment step are thoroughly removed with water containing ionic solid salts to significantly improve the rate performance of a battery, the method does not use acid and is thus environmentally friendly and does not require the neutralization and wastewater treatment necessitated thereby, thus reducing process costs, the positive electrode active material is regenerated directly without being broken down so that no metal elements are wasted, the current collector is not dissolved and can thus be recovered, and the method does not use organic solvents so as to be safe without the risk of toxic gas generation or explosions and is suitable for mass production due to using a process that makes it easy to manage heat treatment and precipitation or the like; and the positive electrode active material that is regenerated therefrom so as to have excellent electrochemical performance, resistance characteristics, and capacity characteristics.
