Abstract:
Proposed are: a method for removing phosphorus from a phosphorus-containing substance, said method being applicable on an industrial scale and being used for the purpose of effectively reducing phosphorus contained in a phosphorus-containing substance, which is a solid oxide used as a main starting material or a minor starting material for metal smelting or metal refining; a method for producing a starting material for metal smelting/refining; and a method for producing a metal. A method for nitriding and removing phosphorus from a phosphorus-containing substance by causing the phosphorus-containing substance, which is used as a starting material for metal smelting/refining, to react with a nitrogen-containing gas, wherein the phosphorus-containing substance is heated to a temperature range where the phosphorus-containing substance is in an unmelted state and reacted with a reducing agent, thereby reducing at least a part of the metal oxide in the phosphorus-containing substance before a process of nitriding and removing phosphorus from the phosphorus-containing substance; a starting material for metal smelting/refining; and a method for producing a metal with use of this starting material for metal smelting/refining.
