Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for selecting a smell, comprising: a step (treatment step S2) for presenting a plurality of objects, to which a plurality of candidate smells have been imparted respectively, to human subjects; a step (treatment step S3) for allowing the human subjects to sniff the smells of the individual objects; a step (treatment step S4) for receiving answers from the human subjects on the degrees of evocation of memories relating to their own experiences in the past that have been evoked by sniffing the individual candidate smells, without indicating the kinds of memories to be evoked; and a step (treatment step S5) for dividing, for each of the candidate smells, the degrees of the evocation of the memories obtained from the human subjects into a high-score group and a low-score group, and selecting a smell to be imparted to a product on the basis of one or more evaluation values selected from (A), (B) and (C),
(A) for each of the candidate smells, the ratio of the number of the human subjects in the high-score group to the total number of the human subjects,
(B) for each of the candidate smells, the ratio of the sum of the evocation degrees of the human subjects in the high-score group to the sum of the evocation degrees of the human subjects in the low-score group, and
(C) for each of the candidate smells, the ratio of the sum of the evocation degrees of the human subjects in the high-score group to the sum of the evocation degrees of the total human subjects.
