Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a method for sulfating glycosaminoglycan in a solution of a non-organic solvent. In the present invention, a sulfation reaction is carried out by causing glycosaminoglycan and a sulfation agent to be present together in a solution of a strongly basic non-organic solvent. "Strongly basic" in the present invention preferably indicates a pH of 11.5 or higher. The present invention enables one-pot synthesis of glycosaminoglycan having heparin-type anticoagulant activity from N-acetylheparosan. In addition, the sulfated glycosaminoglycan obtained by the present invention has a novel disaccharide composition ratio in one embodiment, and is useful as a novel material.
