Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for synthesizing formic acid, the method being characterized in that carbon dioxide is electrochemically reduced using an electron source, an electron transporter, and methylotrophic bacteria that uses electricity as a reductant. Specifically, the methylotrophic bacteria belong to the genus Methylobacterium, and receive an electron source, which is obtained from the decomposition of water in an electrochemical reaction device, from an electron transporter to synthesize formic acid from carbon dioxide.
