Abstract:
A method for implementing VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) on the RPR
(Resilient Packet Ring) includes: for each of the RPR interfaces of the network
device that shall constitute VRRP group, establish a plurality of the interfaces
supporting the medium access control address; divide the RPR interfaces of the
network device that shall constitute VRRP group and the interfaces supporting
the medium access control address into the same one virtual local area network
(VLAN); run VRRP within the divided VLAN, create at least one virtual third layer
switching device. Also, a method and system are provided by the present invention,
through establishing the virtual Ethernet interfaces at the network device,
run VRRP in the VLAN containing the virtual Ethernet interfaces and the RPR interfaces,
create a plurality of the virtual third layer switching device.
