Provided are a method and system for processing a service. The method comprises: a cloud operating system allocates a virtual machine, supporting a hardware acceleration function, to a virtual network element, and therefore, the virtual network element performs, by running the virtual machine supporting the hardware acceleration function, hardware acceleration processing on a service needing hardware acceleration processing; and a virtualized hardware accelerator resource configured for the virtual machine supporting the hardware acceleration function can replace a large number of virtualized resources occupied by a general-purpose virtual machine, and therefore, virtualized resources consumed by a single service (i.e. the service needing hardware acceleration processing) in all the virtualized resources occupied by the virtual network element is reduced, and a large number of remaining virtualized resources is consumed by other services. Thereby the performance of the virtual network element is improved, and the virtual network element is prevented from processing, via a general-purpose virtual machine, the service needing hardware acceleration processing. Hence a serious reduction in the performance of the virtual network element is avoided.
