Disclosed are a method and system for quickly starting video playing. The method comprises: extracting playing records of a video file of a user after a triggering instruction for opening a video application is received; counting the number of times the video file is played at each resolution in the playing records, and analyzing a resolution that the user tends to use; counting the number of playing times a head leader and a tail leader are skipped or not skipped in the playing records, and analyzing whether the user tends to skip the head leader and the tail leader; and playing the video file according to the results obtained after analyzing the resolution that the user tends to use and whether the user tends to skip the head leader and the tail leader after a triggering instruction for clicking on the video file is received. Therefore, the method and system for quickly starting video playing solve the problem that a long period of time is required from the clicking of a user on a video file to the playing of the video file on a video application platform.
