Technical field The invention relates to the sector of portable electronic devices with a camera and video recording functions.

More in detail, the invention relates to a method and a system adapted to allow the sharing of digital content on portable electronic devices, social media and online services. In the description below the following conventions will be used.

The term “digital content” will refer to video, audio, images, multimedia content, barcodes and QR codes, document scans and, more in general, to any type of information that can be managed in electronic format, in particular through the use of cameras of portable electronic devices.

The term “social media” will refer to social network platforms (Facebook®, Instagram®, YouTube®, etc.).

The term “online services” will refer to video sharing services (Tik Tok®, etc.), instant messaging services (WhatsApp®, Twitter®, Signal®, Facebook Messenger®, etc.), email services (Gmail®, Outlook®, etc.), video conference and video call services (Zoom®, Meet®, Facetime®, etc.), video streaming services, online payment services, etc. The term “portable electronic devices” will refer to “smart” devices, such as tablets, smartphones, virtual and/or extended reality viewers and the like.

Background art

Currently, the sharing of digital content on social media or online services requires, for example, the execution of the following separate steps of:

- accessing a social medium or an online service through a software application running on a portable electronic device or through a web service accessible from said device;

- acquiring a video or an image through a camera integrated in said device;

- selecting said video or said image from a multimedia content gallery managed by said device;

- transmitting said video or said image to said social medium or online service through the Internet connection of said device, to obtain sharing on a personal profile present on said social medium or online service;

- transmitting said video or said image to said social medium or online service through the Internet connection of said device, to obtain sharing with other users present on said social medium or online service.

Moreover, there a further step can be provided of:

- selecting a video or an image from a multimedia gallery managed by said portable electronic device. Execution of the aforesaid steps is subordinate to the preliminary activation of specific functions of the device (camera, microphone, geolocation, etc.) for each social medium or online service active on said device.

Consequently, execution of the aforesaid steps makes the sharing of digital content on social media or online services very complex and detailed.

Moreover, the execution of the aforesaid steps also makes sharing on social media or online services of digital content acquired in real time (also in relation to the sharing of “Airdrop” contents in Android® environments) or selected from multimedia galleries (also in relation to the impossibility of sharing the “memories” section in an iOS® environment) practically impossible.

Presentation of the invention

The object of the invention is to propose a method and a system that allow the aforesaid criticalities to be overcome, making it possible to share digital content on portable electronic devices directly from the camera function of said devices, even without having to rely on specific software applications (for acquisition, processing, transmission, etc.) or specific social media or online services.

The object of the invention is achieved with a method for sharing digital content on portable electronic devices according to the independent claim 1 .

The invention also concerns a system for sharing digital content on portable electronic devices according to the respective independent claim.

Further features of the method and of the system of the invention are described in the dependent claims.

The method and the system of the invention allow the sharing of digital content between contacts and/or on social media and/or on online services, also simultaneously, both in real time and in deferred mode, by means of portable electronic devices, also without the aid of software applications or online services external to said devices.

The method and the system of the invention allow the sharing of digital content between contacts and/or on social media and/or on online services with an immediate, intuitive, rapid and efficient mode.

With the advent and the spread of social media and of online services, to increase the functionalities offered to users, attention to what “smart” portable electronic devices already offer (camera, microphone, connectivity, keypad, file transmission, etc.) has been progressively lost in favor of software applications and web services external to said devices.

The method and the system of the invention instead allow enhancement of the camera tool already present on these devices, integrating its photographic and video recording functions with file transmission functions on an Internet connection, so as to allow the sharing of digital content between contacts and/or on social media and/or on online services, also simultaneously, both in real time and in deferred mode, also without the aid of software applications or web services external to the devices and without ever exiting the workflow of the camera tool.

The method and the system of the invention thus define a new functionality for the camera tool of portable electronic devices through which they are channeled to share all the digital content created or managed with said devices, in this way giving the camera tool back its key function lost at the expense of software applications and web services external to said devices, which use them for their exclusive aims.

This new functionality provides for two distinct forms of implementation, named respectively:

- “Advanced System Camera” (ASC);

- “Social Camera” (SC).

As “Advanced System Camera”, the new functionality is natively integrated in the camera tool, in the microphone and in the multimedia gallery of the devices and therefore does not require any operation for downloading, installation or configuration by users, but only a possible updating of the system software of these devices.

With respect to the contacts of the devices, the new functionality, natively integrated in the devices, is automatically and immediately operative, with the icons of said contacts selectable for sharing digital content, also simultaneously, from the screen of the camera and from its workflow.

With respect to social media and/or online services, the new functionality is automatically and immediately operative, with the icons of said social media and/or online services selectable for sharing digital content, also simultaneously, from the screen of the camera and from its workflow, after enabling and, if necessary, acceptance, adoption and implementation by said social media and online services.

In fact, many of the current social media and online services allow the sharing of content exclusively following finalization of sharing within a respective software application or a respective web service, and following enabling of the camera and microphone functions of the device in use.

To overcome any limitations imposed by the current social media and online services, the new functionality will allow the manufacturers of devices (Apple®, Samsung®, Huawei®, etc.) and the developers of the related operating systems (iOS® and Android®) to inhibit, for example, access to the camera and to the microphone of the devices by third party software applications, so as to oblige the owners to undersign commercial agreements that allow a collaboration on an equal basis.

As “Social Camera”, the new functionality is instead obtained with a software application that users must download and install in their devices, which substantially performs the same tasks as the aforesaid “Advanced System Camera”.

This software application is set as predefined application for management of the camera integrated in the devices and provides for both the management of the common photographic and video recording functions and the new digital content sharing functions. After having downloaded and set up this software application, users must quickly register it, through the telephone number associated with the devices, to allow recognition of contacts of homologous devices, through access to the respective address books of contacts.

Regardless of the embodiment, the new functionality will allow the sharing of digital content between contacts and/or on social media and/or on online services, also simultaneously, both in real time and in deferred mode.

The use of the new functionality will oblige users to carry out, for example, the following operations:

- acquire a video or an image through a camera of a portable electronic device;

- choose the sharing mode for said video or said image from the screen for managing the camera;

- in the case of sharing between contacts, choose at least one contact provided with the new functionality from the screen for managing the camera, optionally with the aid of lists of preferred contacts or recently used contacts;

- in the case of sharing on social media or online services, choose at least one account connected to the device in use from the screen for managing the camera;

- transmit said video or said image to said at least one contact and/or to said at least one social medium and/or to said at least one online service, through the Internet connection of the device in use;

- in the case of sharing between contacts, transmit to said at least one contact a notification of transmission of said video or of said image;

- once said video or said image has been opened by said at least one contact, show possible options for its viewing, storage or deletion.

For sharing, more than one contact, social medium or online service can be selected simultaneously, just as contacts, social media or online services can be selected jointly with or separately from one another.

The method and the system for sharing digital content on portable electronic devices according to the invention produce numerous and important advantages, and in particular:

- for users, they allow the sharing of digital content between users and/or on social media and/or on online services, also simultaneously, both in real time and in deferred form, even without the aid of software applications or web services external to the devices used for their acquisition or creation and without ever exiting from the workflow of the camera tool of said devices;

- for users, they allow establishment of the mode of use (download, streaming, one-time viewing, etc.) of digital content shared with other users;

- for manufacturers of devices and developers of the related operating systems, they allow strengthening of their position on the market with respect to management of the digital content and with respect to software applications, social media and online services that use the camera of the devices for their aims, by centralizing in advance the functions of acquisition and management of the aforesaid digital content on their devices and/or on their operating systems;

- for manufacturers of devices and developers of the related operating systems, they allow strengthening of control of the multimedia content, preventing, at the level of single devices the sharing of ethically offensive or clearly unlawful content.

Detailed description of a preferred embodiment of the invention

A method for sharing digital content on portable electronic devices according to the invention substantially comprises the steps of:

- providing a functionality 1 that can be executed on portable electronic devices D provided with a camera F and an Internet connection;

- providing a plurality of reserves of space 2, 3, 4, 5 on a screen S for managing the camera F of the devices D, through the functionality 1 ;

- providing buttons 6, 7, 8, 9 in the first reserve of space 2, through the functionality 1 ;

- providing buttons 10 in the second reserve of space 3, through the functionality 1 ;

- providing buttons 11 in the third reserve of space 4, through the functionality 1 ;

- providing buttons 12, 13, 14 in the fourth reserve of space 5, through the functionality 1 ;

- selecting criteria for the sharing of digital content, through the buttons 6, 7, 8, 9 of the first reserve of space 2;

- selecting single social media and/or online services or groups of social media and/or online services on which to share digital content, through the buttons 10 of the second reserve of space 3;

- selecting single contacts or groups of contacts with which to share digital content, through the buttons 11 of the third reserve of space 4;

- selecting digital content acquisition modes, through the buttons 13, 14 of the fourth reserve of space 5;

- selectively activating the camera F of the devices D, through the button 12 of the fourth reserve of space 5;

- acquiring digital content by means of the camera F of the devices D; - transmitting in real time said digital content to the social media and/or to the online services and/or to the contacts selected through the buttons 10, 11 , according to the criteria for sharing selected through the buttons 6, 7, 8, 9, by means of the Internet connection of the devices D.

The aforesaid method can also comprise the steps of:

- providing in the fourth reserve of space 5 a button 15 for accessing multimedia galleries managed by the devices D or by the functionality 1 , through said functionality 1 ;

- providing in the fourth reserve of space 5 a button 16 for accessing the last digital content created in said multimedia galleries, through the functionality 1 ;

- selecting digital content from said multimedia galleries or said last digital content by means of respective selection buttons, through the functionality 1 ;

- transmitting in deferred mode said digital content to the social media and/or to the online services and/or to the contacts selected through the buttons 10, 11 , according to the criteria for sharing selected through the buttons 6, 7, 8, 9, by means of the Internet connection of the devices D.

The aforesaid method can also comprise the steps of:

- selecting and enabling social media and/or online services connected to the devices D and associating these social media and/or online services with the buttons 10 of the second reserve of space 3; - selecting from the address book of contacts of the devices D contacts provided with the functionality 1 and associating these contacts with the buttons 11 of the third reserve of space 4;

- analyzing the digital content transmitted to the social media and/or to the online services and/or to the contacts selected through the buttons 10, 11 and blocking its transmission following the detection of offensive, violent or unlawful content, through the functionality 1 .

The new functionality with which the camera tool of portable electronic devices is provided allows digital content to be acquired and operations that strengthen the acquisition activity to be performed without ever exiting from the workflow of said camera tool.

In relation to the activity of acquiring digital content, the new functionality allows:

- accessing the camera tool;

- passing from photo shoot mode to video record mode, and vice versa;

- selecting acquisition modes (shoot, record, etc.);

- selecting acquisition options (flash, lighting, values, shooting grids, focus, etc.);

- selecting acquisition options by tapping the screen of the devices;

- adjusting acquisition options through horizontal or vertical swipe movements.

In relation to the activity of acquiring digital content, the new functionality also allows:

- selecting and setting filters and/or corrective, enhancing, decorative effects, etc., to apply to digital content during acquisition;

- selecting and setting said filters and/or effects from lists of preferred or recently used filters and/or effects;

- accessing advanced acquisition settings (portrait, panorama, margins, resolution, ISO, shutter aperture, timer, etc.);

- managing text or voice messages accompanying digital content during acquisition.

Finally, in relation to the activity of acquiring videos or images, the new functionality allows:

- shooting and previewing photos;

- recording videos and viewing first the recording in progress and then the preview.

The new functionality with which the camera tool of portable electronic devices is provided comprises its own multimedia gallery in which digital content produced through said camera tool or received through said new functionality is stored.

In relation to the activity of managing its own multimedia gallery, the new functionality allows:

- accessing said multimedia gallery;

- searching for digital content inside said multimedia gallery;

- selecting digital content inside said multimedia gallery;

- eliminating digital content; - transferring digital content to the multimedia galleries of the devices;

- sharing digital content with other users and/or on social media and/or on online services.

The new functionality with which the camera tool of portable electronic devices is provided allows operations for sharing digital content to be performed, without ever exiting from the workflow of said camera tool.

The sharing operations can be performed directly or in deferred mode with respect to the acquisition time of the digital content.

In relation to the activity of sharing digital content, the new functionality allows:

- definition of the criteria for the sharing of digital content during acquisition through the camera tool of the devices;

- definition of the criteria for the sharing of digital content during selection from multimedia galleries;

- selection of contacts from the screen for managing the camera of the devices;

- transmission of the aforesaid digital content to the contacts selected;

- transmission of notifications of transmission of the aforesaid digital content to the contacts selected.

In relation to the activity of sharing digital content, the new functionality also allows:

- the automatic selection of social media and/or online services from those present in the devices;

- the transmission of digital content to the social media and/or to the online services selected;

- the reception of notifications of reception of the aforesaid digital content from the social media and/or from the online services selected.

Following a live or deferred transmission of digital content through the new functionality, the “recipient” user receives on their device a notification that allows the content received to be used and/or stored, according to the criteria for sharing decided by the “sender” user.

In relation to the activity of notification of the transmission of digital content, the new functionality allows:

- the sending of push notifications to the devices of the “recipient” users;

- the receipt of push notifications on the devices of the “recipient” users;

- the viewing of push notifications on the devices of the “recipient” users;

- through said notifications, the viewing of the digital content received on said devices, even only one time;

- through said notifications, the storing of the digital content received in multimedia galleries of said devices or of said functionality;

- through said notifications, the sharing with other users and/or on social media and/or on online services of the digital content received on said devices;

- through said notifications, declining the digital content received on said devices from the “sender” users.

The new functionality with which the camera tool of portable electronic devices is provided comprises a panel for managing the user profiles.

In relation to the activity of managing the user profiles, the new functionality allows:

- accessing the user profiles;

- viewing the phone numbers of the devices connected to the user profiles;

- changing the phone numbers of the devices connected to the user profiles;

- viewing the accounts of the social media and/or of the online services connected to the devices of users;

- connecting or disconnecting accounts on social media and/or online services from the devices of users;

- managing parameters for receiving digital content (automatic download, priority download with wireless, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connection, etc.).

To access the new functionality with which the camera tool of portable electronic devices is provided, users must first validate and register their devices, communicating their personal details and the details of an identification document.

This will allow recognition of the users and/or of the social media and/or of the online services that use said functionality and, consequently, enable the sharing of digital content between users and/or on these social media and/or online services.

In relation to the activity of validation of the devices of users, the new functionality allows:

- accessing the validation service of the devices;

- notification to said validation service of the phone number associated with the devices, of users’ personal details and the details of their identification document and signing of a form for the confidential processing of the information communicated;

- receiving from said validation service a text message containing a verification code;

- notifying said verification code to said validation service;

- receiving from said validation service notifications concerning the result of the validation performed;

- following validation of the devices, synchronizing the address book of contacts and/or the social media and/or the online services with the new functionality;

- after synchronization of the address book of the devices, highlighting the contacts and/or the social media and/or the online services provided with the new functionality.

With reference to the details of Fig. 1 , a system for sharing videos, images or digital content on portable electronic devices D according to the invention substantially comprises:

- portable electronic devices D, provided with a camera F and an Internet connection, adapted to manage an address book of contacts and a multimedia gallery;

- a functionality 1 , adapted to be executed by said devices D and activated by the user from the screen S for managing the camera of said devices.

The functionality 1 is adapted to determine:

- cooperation of the camera F with the Internet connection of the devices D to allow the transmission in real time of digital content toward social media and/or online services and/or selected contacts, also simultaneously, through said functionality 1 ;

- cooperation of multimedia galleries with the Internet connection of the devices D to allow the deferred transmission of digital content toward social media and/or online services and/or selected contacts, also simultaneously, through said functionality 1 .

The functionality 1 can be produced as a module that can be integrated in operating environments (iOS®, Android®, etc.) of portable electronic devices, either natively or as an update.

The functionality 1 can also be produced as an autonomous software application, which can be installed and run on the same types of devices.

Regardless of the embodiment, the functionality 1 is managed through a graphic interface that can be viewed directly on the screen S for managing the camera F of the devices D, where said graphic interface comprises:

- a first reserve of space 2 containing buttons 6, 7, 8, 9 for selecting criteria for the sharing of digital content acquired by means of the camera F of the devices D or present in multimedia galleries managed by the devices D or by the functionality 1 ;

- a second reserve of space 3, containing buttons 10 for selecting social media and/or online services on which to share said digital content;

- a third reserve of space 4, containing buttons 11 for selecting contacts with which to share said digital content;

- a fourth reserve of space 5, containing buttons 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 for managing digital content and controls 17, 18 for managing text messages accompanying said digital content.

The buttons 6, 7, 8, 9 of the first reserve of space 2 respectively allow:

- making the digital content transmitted through the functionality 1 able to be downloaded;

- making said digital content able to be used use, even only once;

- making said digital content able to be further shared;

- cancelling or declining the transmission of said digital content.

In the first reserve of space 2 buttons P can also be provided for selecting options dedicated to the common use of the camera F of the devices D, such as: - managing the flash, in the case of acquiring videos or images in conditions of poor light;

- managing the acquisition quality of videos or images (FULL HD, HDR, etc.);

- managing the front camera, for acquiring “selfie” videos or images.

The buttons 6, 7, 8, 9, P and the buttons 10, 11 can be swiped horizontally in the respective reserves of space 3, 4 to allow correct viewing also of a number of buttons exceeding the width of the said reserves of space. The buttons 10, 11 can be selected jointly with or separately from one another and several buttons 10, 11 can be selected simultaneously.

The buttons 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 of the fourth reserve of space 5 respectively allow:

- acquisition of digital content through the camera F of the devices D and its transmission to the social media and/or to the online services and/or to the contacts selected through the buttons 10, 11 or the transmission to said social media and/or online services and/or contacts of digital content selected from multimedia galleries managed by the devices D or by the functionality 1 ;

- selection of acquisition modes for the digital content acquired through the camera F of the devices D;

- selection of filters and/or corrective and/or enhancing and/or decorative effects for the digital content acquired through the camera F of the devices D or for the digital content selected from multimedia galleries managed by the devices D or by the functionality 1 ;

- access to multimedia galleries managed by the devices D or by the functionality 1 ;

- access to the last digital content created in said multimedia galleries.

The acquisition modes that can be selected through the buttons 13 can allow videos to be recorded in “timelapse” or “slow motion” mode; photos to be shot in “portrait” or “panorama” mode, etc.

Further buttons can also allow the execution of validation procedures of the devices of users, the management of user profiles, the setting of options and settings of various kind, etc.

The buttons 13, 14, 15, 16 of the fourth reserve of space 5 can be swiped in this space below the fixed button 12, so as to also allow viewing of a number of buttons exceeding the width of said reserve of space.

The controls 17, 18 of the fourth reserve of space 5 respectively allow the management of text messages or voice notes accompanying digital content acquired through the camera F of the devices D or selected from multimedia galleries managed by the devices D or by the functionality 1 and transmitted toward the social media and/or the online services and/or the selected contacts through the buttons 10, 11.

The management interface of the functionality 1 has been described with reference to an electronic device D whose screen S for managing the camera F is oriented vertically, as shown in Fig. 1 .

In the case in which the screen S for managing the camera F is oriented horizontally, following a rotation of the device D through 90° to the right or left, the reserves of space 2, 3, 4, 5 identified on it can vary as a consequence of their arrangement under the control of the functionality 1 .

In particular:

- the first reserve of space 2 and the fourth reserve of space 5 follow the rotation of the device D and are arranged vertically at the sides of the screen S for managing the camera F;

- the second reserve of space 3 and the third reserve of space 4 maintain their horizontal orientation and are arranged along the upper and lower margins of the screen F, between the first reserve of space 2 and the fourth reserve of space 5.

Alternatively:

- the second reserve of space 3 and the third reserve of space 4 also follow the rotation of the device D and are arranged vertically along the free margins of the first reserve of space 2 and of the fourth reserve of space 5.

Following the rotation of the device D and of the new orientations taken by the reserves of space 2, 3, 4, 5, the related buttons and controls will, if necessary, be rotated and/or resized by the functionality 1 to leave the recognizability and usability by the user unchanged. Moreover, also following the rotation of the device D and of the new orientations taken by the reserves of space 2, 3, 4, 5, it will still be possible to swipe the related buttons inside them, so as to ensure correct viewing of a number of buttons exceeding the size of said reserves of space.

The functionality 1 further comprises:

- selection filters, adapted to search for and enable, in the devices D, social media and/or online services connected to them and automatically associate these social media and/or online services with the buttons 10 of the second reserve of space 3;

- selection filters, adapted to search for, in the address book of the devices D, contacts provided with the functionality 1 and automatically associated these contacts with the buttons 11 of the third reserve of space 4;

- selection filters, adapted to automatically identify the contacts connected to the social media and/or to the online services selected through the buttons 10 of the second reserve of space 3;

- analysis filters, adapted to process the digital content transmitted to the social media and/or to the online services and/or to the contacts selected through said buttons 10, 11 and block its transmission following the detection of offensive, violent or unlawful content.

The operation of a system for sharing digital content on portable electronic devices according to the invention can be summarized as described below.

Through the buttons 6, 7, 8, 9 the “sender” user selects the criteria for sharing required for the digital content acquired by means of the camera F of the devices D.

Through the same buttons 6, 7, 8, 9 the “sender” user also selects the criteria for sharing required for the digital content selected from the multimedia galleries managed by the devices D or by the functionality 1 , which are accessible through the buttons 15, 16.

These criteria for sharing include the possibility for “recipient” users to make use of, store, share or decline the digital content received from the “sender” user.

Through the button 13, the “sender” user manages the acquisition modes for the digital content acquired by means of the camera F of the devices D.

The acquisition modes selectable through the buttons 13 can allow videos to be recorded in “timelapse” or “slow motion” mode; photos to be shot in “portrait” or “panorama” mode, etc.

Through the button 14, the “sender” user manages the application of filters and/or corrective, enhancing or decorative effects to the digital content acquired by means of said camera F or to the digital content selected from the multimedia galleries managed by the devices D or by the functionality 1 .

Through the controls 17, 18, the “sender” user manages text messages or voice notes accompanying the digital content acquired by means of said camera F or of the digital content selected from the multimedia galleries managed by the devices D or by the functionality 1.

Through the buttons 10, 11 , the “sender” user selects the social media and/or the online services and/or the contacts with which to share the aforesaid digital content.

With respect to the social media and/or to the online services present in the devices D, the functionality 1 is, after being enabled, immediately operational, with the related buttons 10 available for selection on the screen for managing the camera F, in the respective reserve of space 3.

With respect to the contacts present in the address book of the devices D, the functionality 1 is immediately operational, with the related buttons 11 available for selection on the screen for managing the camera F, in the respective reserve of space 4.

Therefore, the “sender” user can determine:

- with a single tap of the buttons 10, publication, also simultaneous, of digital content on their social media profiles;

- with a single tap of the buttons 10, sharing, also simultaneous, of digital content on their online service profiles, choosing with single taps of the buttons 10 also contacts of said online services with which to share said digital content;

- with a double tap of the buttons 10, direct access to said social media and/or online services;

- with a single tap of the buttons 11 , sharing, also simultaneous, of digital content with “recipient” users also provided with the functionality 1.

The social media and/or the online services associated with the buttons 10 are selected by the functionality 1 from the social media and/or the online services connected to the devices D, while the contacts associated with the buttons 11 are selected by the functionality 1 from the contacts of the address book of the devices D that use this functionality.

Through the button 12, the “sender” user determines the transmission in real time of the digital content acquired by means of the camera F of the devices D to the social media and/or to the online services and/or to the contacts selected through the buttons 10, 11 , by means of the Internet connection of said devices D.

Through the same button 12, the “sender” user also determines the deferred transmission of the digital content selected from the multimedia galleries managed by the devices D or by the functionality 1 to the social media and/or to the online services and/or to the contacts selected through the buttons 10, 11 , by means of the Internet connection of said devices D.

The functionality 1 analyzes the digital content transmitted to the social media and/or to the online services and/or to the “recipient” contacts and blocks its transmission following the detection of offensive, violent or clearly unlawful content.

Therefore, said digital content reaches the “recipient” social media and/or the online services according to the criteria for sharing established by the “sender” user.

Said digital content also reaches the devices of the “recipient” contacts, who use it according to the criteria established by the “sender” user. The functionality 1 operating on the device of the “sender” user forwards to the devices of the “recipient” contacts a notification confirming that transmission of digital content to these devices has taken place.

The functionality 1 operating on the devices D of the “recipient” users receives this notification and consequently displays:
