A method for shopping in a supermarket, comprising: identifying an incoming customer at a supermarket entrance gate and weighing the customer (A1); providing a self-service shopping system for the customer to perform self-service shopping and check-out (A2); and providing an exit weighing system at a supermarket exit gate to compare the current weight of the customer with the weight of the customer when entering the supermarket, and allow the customer to leave within a permissible range (A3). Also provided is a system for shopping in a supermarket, comprising: a supermarket entrance gate provided at a supermarket entrance to identify an incoming customer; an entrance weighing system used for weighing the incoming customer; a self-service shopping system used for self-service shopping and check-out of the customer; a supermarket exit gate provided near the self-service shopping system; and an exit weighing system for weighing an outgoing customer and comparing the current weight of the customer with the weight of the customer when entering the supermarket, to allow the customer to leave within a permissible range. Operating costs and the risk of commodity loss can be reduced.
