Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method and system for restarting network service without packet loss and downtime, the method comprising: a) enabling an old process of the network service to monitor on a port; b) configuring and starting a transition process, the configuration comprising enabling the transition process to monitor on a port that is different from the one used by the old process; c) while a connection tracking module is running, adding an iptables rule such that a connection that is directed to one port is redirected to another port; d) waiting until all existing connections on the old process finish processing, then exiting from the old process; e) using a new configuration file to start a new process on the one port; f) reconfiguring the iptables rule such that the redirection of the port is canceled; and g) waiting until all of the existing connections on the transition process finish processing, then exiting from the transition process.
