Disclosed is a method of testing air-tightness of a hermetically sealed lash adjuster, whereby it is possible to check the sealing performance of first and second sealing members interposed between a body and a plunger at relative sliding portions during assembling. Specifically disclosed is a method of testing air-tightness inside an adjuster by supplying pressurized gas into an open-bottom plunger (20) having an recycling hole (27) formed in the sidewall thereof from a hole (21) in the top portion of the plunger during assembling of the adjuster by fitting the plunger (20) into a body (10). At the time of fitting the plunger (20) including a sealing material (19) at a sliding portion thereof into the body (10) including a sealing material (29) at a sliding portion thereof, a lower end portion of the plunger (20) is brought into contact with the sealing member (29) so as to be slidable, the hole (27) is closed, and the air-tightness (sealing performance of the sealing material (29)) inside the adjuster is tested. When the sealing material (29) is normal, the hole (27) is opened, and the plunger (20) is further inserted until the sealing material (19) and the body (10) are brought into contact with each other so as to be slidable and, at the same time, until the hole (27) reaches a position before the sealing material (29). At this stage, the air-tightness inside the adjuster is tested, and the sealing performance of the sealing material (19) is determined.
