Disclosed in the present invention is a method for tracking finger contours, comprising: acquiring an initial outer contour of a finger part from a depth image or a colour image of the same image recording the hand of a user; using each discrete point on the initial outer contour of the finger part as a reference, acquiring a candidate point set adjacent to each discrete point and respectively selecting from the candidate point set adjacent to each discrete point a candidate point to construct candidate contours of the finger part; and selecting from the candidate contours of the finger part a candidate contour to be the tracked outer contour of the finger part. Correspondingly, also disclosed in the present invention is an apparatus for tracking finger contours. Using the embodiments of the present invention, the outer contours of a finger part can be accurately tracked.
