Abstract:
A method of treatment by which the content of unsaturated-compound impurities in 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane (R245fa) is reduced while minimizing the loss of R245fa. R245fa containing unsaturated compounds as impurities is brought into contact with chlorine gas in a gas phase in the presence of an activated carbon catalyst to convert the unsaturated compounds to chlorine adducts. Thus, the content of the impurities is reduced.
