Abstract:
Disclosed is a treatment method whereby biomass material(s) can be reduced or carbonized at an extremely low cost.
A method for reducing or carbonizing one or more kinds of biomass materials, which are selected from among domestic animal wastes, agricultural wastes, fishery wastes and forestry wastes, in a container that can be heated and pressurized, comprising: putting said biomass material(s) into said container; controlling the initial environment in said container in such a manner as to satisfy all of the following requirements, i.e., (a) an oxygen-containing atmosphere, (b) a temperature of 55-80oC, (c) a pressure from the atmospheric pressure (exclusive) to 15 atm., and (d) a carbon monoxide concentration equal to or higher than 100 ppm, to rise the temperature of the biomass material(s) to higher than 80oC; and, after the temperature exceeds 80oC, controlling the continuous environment in said container in such a manner as to satisfy all of the following requirements, i.e., (i) an oxygen-containing atmosphere, (ii) a pressure from the atmospheric pressure (exclusive) to 15 atm., and (iii) a carbon monoxide concentration equal to or higher than 100 ppm, to allow the temperature of said biomass material(s) to spontaneously rise to at least higher than 150oC, thereby reducing or carbonizing said biomass material(s).
