Title:
METHOD OF USING EUGLENA TO PRODUCE BIOFUEL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2020/162502
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
To collect wax ester from Euglena, the Euglena is cultured in an anaerobic atmosphere, and is caused to perform anaerobic respiration. Even in an anaerobic atmosphere, however, the Euglena never uses all of accumulated paramylon for anaerobic respiration. As a result, there has been a problem that production efficiency of wax ester is not high. This method of producing biofuel is characterized by comprising a step for culturing Euglena in an aerobic atmosphere by adding sugar, a step for giving the Euglena a C2-8 fatty acid in an acidic environment, a step for allowing the Euglena to stand for a certain length of time, and a step for recovering wax ester from the Euglena. The method involves chemically stopping the Euglena's cycle of aerobic respiration so that the Euglena convert all of the accumulated paramylon to wax ester. As a result, the production efficiency of wax ester increases.
