Abstract:
Provided is a process for working rock by a laser, which is capable of achieving remarkably high working efficiency, a reduction in working time, and a reduction in working energy. By applying a laser (13) having a wavelength of 1.2 μm or more and a high capability of being absorbed in liquid to the surface of rock (11) immersed in liquid (10) through the liquid (10) with the liquid (10) placed on the way to the surface of the rock (11) and generating induced bubbles in the liquid (10), dross generated in a keyhole (21) of an application portion of the laser (13) is scattered. By continuously moving the laser application position along the application surface, controlling the application condition and the movement speed of the laser (13) on the basis of information from a worked portion of the rock so that a laser non-application portion (22) is cleaved and destroyed by thermal stress, and moving the laser (13) as shown by the arrow (14), a large-diameter hole such as shown by a peripheral edge (23) and a bottom portion (24) is efficiently formed.
