Title:
METHOD FOR WORKING STEEL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2001/049887
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The invention relates to iron metallurgy and more specifically to a modification of the physical properties of steel with the aid of deformation, including hot deformation. The invention can be used for plastic processing of blanks and articles used for high-capacity steel structures. The inventive method consists in reducing a microstructure by means of plastic deformation at a temperature ranging from 1000-400 °C in one or several steps with a stepwise regulated temperature decrease until final grain dimensions (D¿f?) are obtained. Cooling at a regulated speed prevents perli te transformation or a segregation of secondary phases is carried out immediately after each deformation at a temperature exceeding the temperature of the last phase transformation or the temperature of the segregation of the secondary phases for steel in which phase modifications or segregation of secondary phases occur at certain temperatures. When a blank has an essentially granulated perlite structure, the temperature for the first stage of deformation is selected within a prescribed range below the lower limit of an area of intercritical temperatures (A¿1?). For austenitic and austenite-ferrite steels, deformation within the prescribed range is embodied until a grain dimension of D¿f?=D¿cr ?is obtained.
