Abstract:
Provided is a microbial fuel cell requiring no pump or the like for fuel supply, and capable of maintaining the vicinity of a fuel electrode in a low-oxygen state and of generating electricity stably. This microbial fuel cell (1A) comprises: a case body (2) forming a closed space isolated from the external environment; and an ion conduction layer (5) dividing the closed space into a fuel chamber (3) in which a microorganism-containing substance (10) is disposed, and an air chamber (4) containing oxygen. In at least a portion of the case body (2), an open portion (6) wherethrough the external environment and the fuel chamber (3) communicate is formed, and an opening-closing part (7) is provided, capable of opening and closing the open portion (6).
