Abstract:

This microbial fuel cell (100) is provided with a positive electrode (10, 10A), a negative electrode (20) that holds microorganisms, and an electrolyte solution (70). The positive electrode comprises: a conductor layer (1); a porous layer (2) that is laminated on the conductor layer and is internally loaded with a catalyst (3); and a water repellent layer (4) that is laminated on a surface (1b) of the conductor layer, said surface (1b) being on the reverse side of a surface (1a) that is in contact with the porous layer, or on a surface (2b) of the porous layer, said surface (2b) being on the reverse side of a surface (2a) that is in contact with the conductor layer. In addition, the porous layer and the negative electrode are immersed in the electrolyte solution, and at least a part of the water repellent layer is exposed to a vapor phase (90).
