Abstract:
The present invention relates to a microfluidic device for a differential pressure viscometer and a method for designing the same, the device measuring the extensional viscosity of various fluids which include: a bio-related fluid such as mucus, joint fluid, or blood; a fluid such as paint or inkjet printer ink; and fuel oil, a polymer solution, etc. The present invention comprises: a sample microchannel in which extensional flow occurs at a predetermined extensional velocity; and a comparative microchannel in which the same pressure drop as that attributed to a shear flow in the sample microchannel occurs, and thus can measure the extensional viscosity at a constant extensional velocity (in a steady state). The present invention as describe above is advantageous in that the amount of a sample necessary for measurement can be reduced.
