A microfluidic device, comprising at least one microfluidic channel unit (100), each microfluidic channel unit (100) comprising a microfluidic channel, the microfluidic channel being configured to contain a fluid and comprising a plurality of independent compartments (110). Each microfluidic channel unit (100) comprises a first side wall (102) and a second side wall (104) opposite to and separated from the first side wall (102); a plurality of first extensions (106) are formed on the first side wall (102) and extend towards the second side wall (104) without abutting against the second side wall (104); a plurality of second extensions (108) are formed on the second side wall (104) and extend towards the first side wall (102) without abutting against the first side wall (102); the plurality of first extensions (106) and the plurality of second extensions (108) have an alternating arrangement in the microfluidic channel. The compartments (110) are formed in at least one first extension (106) or in at least one second extension (108). The compartments (110) have an opening positioned such that the fluid does not directly flow into each compartment (110).
