Abstract:
The present invention provides a transgenic microorganism capable of displaying α-galactosidase on the surface layer thereof. Also provided is a method for producing an alcohol, which includes the step of culturing the transgenic microorganism in a culture medium containing a material containing an oligosaccharide, wherein the oligosaccharide contains α-galactose molecules that are bonded to each other through an α-1,6 bond. Also provided is a method for producing lactic acid using the transgenic microorganism together with a material containing an oligosaccharide, wherein the oligosaccharide contains α-galactose molecules that are bonded to each other through an α-1,6 bond. According to the present invention, a microorganism can be provided, which can decompose an oligosaccharide occurring in soybean molasses and containing α-galactose molecules that are bonded to each other through an α-1,6 bond.
