Abstract:
Provided is a method for producing a microorganism carrier, whereby a microorganism carrier, which has a large surface area and allows the adhesion of a number of microorganisms thereto, can be produced by simple steps.
The method for producing a microorganism carrier comprises: under rotating an extrusion screw (S) of an extrusion molding machine (M) at a constant speed, delivering a resin foam material (P) in such a manner that the resin foam material (P) abrades the peripheral face of a top (12a) of a projection (12) in a die (1); at the same time, lowering the viscosity of the resin foam material (P) using a foaming agent to thereby lower the flow speed of the resin foam material (P) at the top (12a) of the projection (12), said resin foam material (P) having been extruded outside the die (1), relative to the flow speed thereof at around the boundary between the surface of a shank (11) and the bottom base (12b) of the projection (12); due to the resultant difference in flow speed, dividing the resin in the neighborhood of the top (12a) and breaking bubbles having been formed in the resin by the foaming agent to thereby aggregate the resin; thus forming irregular and discontinued peaks and valleys along the lengthwise direction on the surface; and cutting the molded article, which has been extruded in a sheet form, into pieces of definite length.
