Abstract:
In order to decrease the power consumption of a microprocessor and at the same time to increase the processing speed, the functional units (104 to 107) are each supplied with a plurality of clocks and a plurality of power-source voltages, and are each provided inside thereof with a clock change-over circuit and a power source change-over circuit. When a program is executed mainly using a particular functional unit, e.g., an FPU (106), the speed of operation of this functional unit is higher than that during the ordinary operation. For this purpose, a power consumption control circuit (102) supplies to the FPU (106) a power source/clock change-over signal (113c) that instructs to raise the clocks used and also raise the power-source voltage used so that the raised clocks can be used by the FPU (106). In order to compensate for an increase in a power consumption caused by an increase in the operation speed of the FPU (106), the power consumption control circuit (102) supplies to other functional unit, for example a CPU (105), the power source/clock change-over signal (113c) that instructs to lower the clocks that are used.
