Description:
TITLE OF THE INVENTION : MILLENNIUM NEEDLE I, Dr. Helio Zapata, a U. S. citizen residing at 4142 W. Cleveland Avenue, Skokie, Illinois, 60076, am the inventor of Millennium Needle.

I, Ester A. Brackshaw, a U. S. citizen residing at 8549 Lawndale Avenue, Skokie, Illinois, 60076, am the co-inventor of Millennium Needle.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of The Invention This invention is in the field of needles, particularly the field of sewing needles.

2. Description of The Prior Art Needles to sew clothes are as old as people have needed them to make and repair the garments they wear. At first, they were made of wood. Since the Iron Age, however, they were made of metal, a much harder material that could be manufactured into a durable and useful tool. Today, modern technology makes sewing needles in massive quantities to satisfy the global demand.

Made of rustproof metallic materials, they come in various sizes and shapes. All these needles, however, from the oldest to the modern ones, have the same basic structure: a sharp, pointed end to easily penetrate the material, a shank or body, and a single hole placed at the blunt, thicker end of the needle. Putting the thread through the hole of the needle has traditionally been difficult, either because the hole is too small, the thread is frayed, the sight is poor, the lighting condition is not good, or the hand is too unsteady. This problem has existed ever since sewing needles were invented because they all have the same basic structure mentioned above.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION: The Millennium Needle is a standard sewing needle that has been structurally altered to create a new physical feature not present in the prior art. The Millennium Needle's unique physical feature is a slot on one side of the needle, located one millimeter from the concavity of the needle's eye. This slot is just big enough to accommodate a looped thread. It is continuous with a small tunnel which curves in a circular fashion inside the head of the needle and ends at the concavity of the needle's eye.

It is therefore the object of this invention to provide sewing needles with a strategic, distinct and unique new physical feature, a slot on one side of the needle's head, leading to a tunnel that guides the looped thread from the slot into the needle's eye, thus eliminating the difficulty of threading it in the conventional way.

It is further the object of this invention to provide a standard sewing needle with a unique and strategically located new physical feature which solves with new and unexpected results the long-felt need of putting a thread through the eye of the needle in the easiest, fastest, and most effective way.

To solve the problems of threading a needle in the conventional way, in the present invention all the user has to do is to hang a loop of the thread over the shank of the needle and gently pull down the two ends of the loop. Then, it is made to slide toward the head of the needle until it falls graciously into the slot, travels inside the tunnel and exits in the concavity of the needle's eye.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWINGS Fig. 1 shows a lateral view of the Millennium Needle. As depicted in the drawing, a minute slot, slanted backward, is located on the side of the needle. Notice that the slot is not on the lateral sides of the needle's eye, nor in its immediate vicinity but one millimeter away from the concavity of the needle's eye. The slot is the entrance to a small tunnel which curves inside the needle's head in a circular fashion and ends at the uppermost aspect of the concavity of the needle's eye. In reality, the tunnel is just big enough to accommodate a thread but is shown here in larger dimensions for illustrative purposes only.

Fig. 2 is a magnified view of the Millennium Needle's new physical feature: a minute slot continuous with a circular tunnel ending in the needle's eye. The slot and tunnel are shown here on a rather large scale only for illustrative purposes. In reality, the slot and tunnel are just big enough to accommodate a loop of thread.

Fig. 3 is a drawing of the Millennium Needle showing a loop of thread hanging over the needle.

The looped thread is being pulled gently downward by the fingers of one hand while the needle is held by the opposite hand. The loop is made to slide slowly towards the needle's head until it falls graciously into the slot, travels quickly through the circular tunnel inside the needle and exits effortlessly in the eye.

Fig. 4 shows the loop already resting inside the needle's eye after its brief sojourn through the Millennium Needle's new physical feature, the slot continuous with a tunnel.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The Millennium Needle is a standard sewing needle that has been provided with a unique, strategic and distinct new physical feature that makes the process of threading a needle extremely easy.

The Millennium Needle's new physical feature is a minute slot on the side of the needle, one millimeter away from the concavity of the needle's eye and totally separated from it. This slot is just big enough to accommodate a loop of thread. The slot is slanted backward to prevent the fabric being sewn from getting caught at the edges of the slot (Fig. 1 and 2 of the drawings).

The slot is continuous with a small tunnel that enters into the needle and curves in a circular fashion going first in the direction of the tip of the needle, then downwards following the circular trajectory. It then turns backwards and finally upward to end at the uppermost aspect of the concavity of the needle's eye (Fig 2 of the drawings).

The exact, strategic and substantial location of the slot totally separate from the needle's eye, combined with both the relatively long circular trajectory of the tunnel and the tunnel's size, makes it virtually impossible for the thread to travel backward (Fig. 4 of the drawings).

In the present invention, all the user has to do to thread the needle is to hang a loop of the thread over the shank of the needle and gently pull down the two ends of the loop, sliding it toward the head of the needle until it falls graciously into the slot, travels inside the tunnel and exits in the concavity of the needle's eye (Fig. 3 and 4 of the drawings).
