Title:
MIXED CULTURES FOR IMPROVED FERMENTATION AND AEROBIC STABILITY OF SILAGE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2002039825
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
Methods and compositions for treatment of animal feed or silage by treatment with a mixed culture of heterofermentive lactic acid bacteria and homofermentive lactic acid bacteria of the proper ratio. Bacterial strains for such treatment are also provided. The heterofermentative lactic acid bacteria are selected from Lactobacillus buchneri or Lactobacillus brevis, the homofermentative lactic acid bacteria is Lactobacillus plantarum. The ratio of viable cells of the homofermentative to heterofermentative lactic acid bacteria ranges from 1:5 to 1:15. Cultures of Lactobacillus buchneri provided are ATCC PTA-2493, ATCC PTA-2494 or ATCC PTA-2495.
