Abstract:
Disclosed are a mixture and a cation conductor which are capable of transferring cations without humidification even in the temperature range not higher than the boiling point of water. Also disclosed is an electrochemical device such as a fuel cell which uses the mixture or cation conductor. The electrochemical device comprises a fuel electrode (12) and an oxygen electrode (13) arranged opposite to each other via an electrolyte membrane (11). The electrolyte membrane (11) contains a first compound composed of an imidazole derivative containing N having an unshared electron pair and a second compound composed of at least one compound selected from the group consisting of compounds having structures represented by the formulae below.
