Abstract:
The present invention relates to an MMC converter which is associated with a high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system and sub-modules which constitute the MMC converter. A sub-module according to the present invention comprises: a first power semiconductor switch and a second power semiconductor switch which each include a semiconductor switch and a diode connected in anti-parallel to the semiconductor switch and which are connected in series with each other in the same direction; a capacitor which is connected in parallel to both the first power semiconductor switch and the second power semiconductor switch which are connected in series with each other; a first terminal which is connected to a first node between the first and second power semiconductor switches; a second terminal which is connected to a second node between the second power semiconductor switch and the capacitor; a third power semiconductor switch which includes a semiconductor switch and a diode connected in anti-parallel with the semiconductor switch, one side of the third power semiconductor switch being connected to the second node; and a third terminal which is connected to the other end of the third power semiconductor switch and is connected to a terminal of the AC system.
