Abstract:
The present invention relates to a mobile robot and a control method therefor, the mobile robot comprising: a sensor unit for sensing an obstacle located in a traveling direction; a camera for, when the obstacle is sensed by the sensor unit, photographing the obstacle; and a control unit for performing control such that a predetermined operation corresponding to the obstacle is performed, wherein the control unit is configured to: analyze multiple pieces of image data of the obstacle, input from the camera, so as to determine whether the obstacle can be identified and, on the basis thereof, perform filtering of the image data; transmit image data filtered from the multiple pieces of image data to a server through a communication unit; and control a travelling unit according to obstacle information received from the server. Therefore, since only recognizable images are transmitted, unnecessary data transmissions are reduced and transmission traffic is reduced accordingly, a load of the server due to image processing is reduced, a reduction in the load of the server enables fast determination of an obstacle, and thus, the mobile robot can recognize an obstacle, determine the type thereof, and cope with the obstacle in a short time, and can perform an operation suitable to the characteristics of an obstacle, an area to be cleaned, or the surroundings thereof.
