Abstract:
The present invention provides: a water-soluble film that has excellent cold water solubility and practical properties such as strength and body and is able to limit the reduction of various physical properties such as chemical resistance over time; and a modified polyvinyl alcohol used in said water-soluble film. The present invention relates to a modified polyvinyl alcohol, which is obtained by comprising 0.05-10 mole% of monomer units with two carboxyl groups and for which the integrated value (X) for 6.8-7.2 ppm and the integrated value (Y) for 5.3-5.5 ppm in 1H-NMR analysis satisfy the formula below.
0.60 ≤ X/(X+Y) < 1.0
