This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)" which composes of many modules, which is adjustable and multifunctional, and which is fixed to the bones externally in order to stabilize open or closed fractures of femur, tibia and humerus; to correct structural deformities of bones as frontal, sagittal and oblique plan deformities; to treat shortnesses and longness, pseudoarthrosis and malunion, to open joint contractures, and to treat congenital extremity deformities like congenital pes equino varus. 2- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is that it has Body (4) of MAMEF angulation pin clamp, which is interlocked with the MAMEF angulation pin clamp (7). 3- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is that it has MAMEF angulation sphere (1) being fixed to the Body (4) of MAMEF angulation pin clamp and MAMEF lengthening threaded body (6) with fixing pins (2), providing a total of 60 degree valgus-varus, flexion- extension as being up to 30 degrees (30+30) each on both ends of MAMEF.

4- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is that it has Set screw (3) for MAMEF spherical angulation, which fixes the MAMEF angulation sphere (1) after MAMEF angulation sphere (1) allows a total of 60 degree valgus-varus as being up to 30 degrees (30+30) each on both ends of MAMEF, which is inserted to Set screw hole (19) for MAMEF varus-valgus angulation on MAMEF lengthening threaded body (6).

5- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is that it has Set screw (3) for MAMEF spherical angulation, which fixes the MAMEF angulation sphere (1) after MAMEF angulation sphere (1) allows a total of 60 degree flexion-extension as being up to 30 degrees (30+30) each on both ends of MAMEF, which is inserted to Set screw hole (18) for MAMEF flexion-extension on Body (4) of MAMEF angulation pin clamp

6- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is that it has MAMEF angulation pin clamp (7), which has monoblock cylindirical structure, which is fixed to the MAMEF body with the Body (4) of MAMEF angulation pin clamp by a special connection system consisting of sphere (1) and pins (2), and so that it can be moved at an angle according to the axes of MAMEF lengthening body (5); because of that it can move at 360 degrees around the Body (4) of MAMEF angulation pin clamp, it allows 360 degree rotations on both ends of MAMEF, on which has a total of fourteen different pin insertion holes as being six horizontal MAMEF transverse pin holes (9), four proximal oblique and four distal oblique MAMEF angled pin holes (16), in which six pins can be placed at the same time, in which pins can be placed at different angles on the same plane at the same time, which allows pin inserting on more than one plane, which has set screws (10) to fix for each pin placed, which a total of 60 degree flexion-extension as being 30 degree each (30+30), a total of 60 degree varus-valgus as being 30 degree each (30+30) can be performed by the pins inserted in it and by the angulation, on which functions can be performed separately or together, at the same or different time, at one time or gradually in a controlled way.

7- MAMEF angulation pin clamp (7) is mentioned in claim 6 and its feature is that; it has MAMEF transverse pin holes (9) in which pins can be inserted transversely. 8- MAMEF angulation pin clamp (7) is mentioned in claim 6 and its feature is that; it has MAMEF angled pin holes (16) in which pins can be inserted at 30 degree angle as proximal or distal oblique. 9- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is that it has Lengthening- shorthening screw (1 1) of MAMEF angulation pin clamp, which makes Body's (4) lengthening-shothening and compression-distraction with MAMEF angulation pin clamp (7) in a controlled way due to the pressure of the Compression-distraction fixing screw (24) of MAMEF pin clamp when it is turned,and which does not get out again due to the Compression-distraction fixing screw (24) of MAMEF pin clamp.

10- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is that it has Serrated surface (8) to fix MAMEF angulation pin clamp which is on the overlapping surfaces of the MAMEF angulation pin clamp (7) and the Body (4) of MAMEF angulation pin clamp, and which locks themselves like a gear system when they are overlapped, which prevents rotation then while pins are inserted in MAMEF angulation pin clamp (7) and when MAMEF is loaded. 11- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is that it has Antirotator threaded bolt and its fixing nut (17) of MAMEF angulation pin clamp, which prevents rotation of MAMEF angulation pin clamp (7) as being placed into the holes on Serrated surface (8) to fix MAMEF angulation pin clamp and as being fixed with its fixing nut (17), and so which allows lengthening-shortnening and compression-distraction in a desired position, which provides angulation of MAMEF angulation pin clamp (7) because of that it is connected with MAMEF angulation sphere (1).

12- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is that it has MAMEF lengthening threaded body (6) which is interlocked with MAMEF lengthening body (5). 13- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is that it has MAMEF lengthening body (5), on which has a total of twelve pin insertion holes (14) as being six pieces each (6+6) on the front and the back, that two pins inserted sequentially in the front and the back grooves are positioned at an angle of 15 degrees between themselves, which has Fixing screws (15) for MAMEF body pins to fix the pins placed into the MAMEF body pin holes (both sides) (14).

14- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is that it has MAMEF lenthening-shorthening transfer nut

(13), which can be turned only when Fixing screw (25) for MAMEF lenghtening body is loosened that its body fits into the slot of the MAMEF lengthening threaded body (6), for lenghtening-shortening on MAMEF and compression-distraction on the bone when desired by entering MAMEF lengthening threaded body (6) into or out of the MAMEF lengthening body (5).

15- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is that it has MAMEF bolt (12) to insert single pin (angled or transvers), which can be adapted in all pin holes and grooves in the system, which can be placed on three plans, at 360 degrees, at any desired angle, and at any quantity.

16- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is that it has MAMEF clamp interlocking part (27) for translation, which is interlocked with the MAMEF angulation translation part (20) in a sliding system, which makes translation as Body (4) of MAMEF angulation pin clamp going to the right and left in the sliding system by turning the head of the MAMEF translation screw (23).

17- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is that it has MAMEF angulation translation part (20), which is interlocked with the MAMEF clamp interlocking part (27) for translation in a sliding system, which provides also angulation during tranlation due to its connection to the MAMEF angulation sphere (1) with the pins.

18- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is that it has MAMEF angulation rotation part (21), which provides rotation as loosening the MAMEF anti-rotation screw (26) on it, which prevents seperation of the Interlocking part (22) for MAMEF rotation-translation and the MAMEF angulation rotation part (21), which provides also angulation due to its connection to the MAMEF angulation sphere (1) with the pins

19- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is that it has Interlocking part (22) for MAMEF rotation- translation, which one side of it is interlocked with the MAMEF lengthening body (5) in a sliding system, and the other side of it is connected with the the MAMEF angulation rotation part (21), which provides translation by turning the head of the MAMEF translation screw (23) on the MAMEF lengthening body (5) in a sliding system by sliding the MAMEF lengthening body (5) to the right and left, which also provides rotation by its side connecting with the MAMEF angulation rotation part (21) 20- This invention is "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)", and its feature is being able to be used hybrid with special pin-bar system and/or ring external fixators, and being able to be designed as seven different fixators by combining their parts.

MODULAR ADJUSTABLE MULTIFUNCTIONAL EXTERNAL FIXATOR

(MAMEF)

Technological Scope :

This invention is related to the "Modular Adjustable Multifunctional External Fixator (MAMEF)" which composes of many modules, which is adjustable and multifunctional, and which is fixed to the bones externally in order to stabilize open or closed fractures of femur, tibia and humerus; to correct structural deformities of bones as frontal, sagittal and oblique plan deformities; to treat shortnesses and longness, pseudoarthrosis and malunion, to open joint contractures, and to treat congenital extremity deformities like congenital pes equinovarus. Common Status of The Technique:

At the present time, a large number of surgical treatment methods are applied for fixing fractures of femur, tibia and humerus; and for treating their deformities, shortness and longness, pseudoarthrosis and malunion, congenital extremity deformities, and for opening joint contractures.

The present invention is superior to other external fixators, because of being able to make all functions in a controlled way, seperately or together at one time or progressively, being other functions not to be affected when one function is activated, being able to be applied in a single or multi-plan, needing the least instruments during surgery, having a specific connection system to protect the obtained position absulately and completely, being able to make 360 degree rotations, 60 degree flexion-extension and varus-valgus in a controlled way, being able to be used hybrid with special pin-bar system and/or ring external fixators, and being able to be designed as seven different fixators by combining their parts.

The present invention is easily applicable and removable. It is light as possible, and strong enough as necessary. It requires the least instruments during application, and can be applied in a single or multiple plan. Due to being multifunctional; lengthening- shortening (compression-distraction), rotation (internal-external rotation), angulation, or correction (varus-valgus, flexion, extension), temporary or therapeutic fixation, traslation can be perfomed with it, and it can be combined with other systems. With the invention, functions can be done at one time or gradually in a controlled way. Functions can be perfomed seperately or together. When one fuction is activated in the system, the other functions are not affected from that.

The present invention consist of one main body, two monoblock pin holders, adaptable free pin holder (12) and pins, and it is designed in different sizes for femur, tibia and humerus.

MAMEF main body consist of two parts which are interlocked with screw system (threaded system); lenghtening-shorthening (compression-distraction) functions are performed here by the help of the system preventing rotation, without the need for any additional part; it has a total of twelve pin insertion holes (14), as being six pieces each (6+6) on the front and the back; two pins inserted sequentially in the front and the back grooves are positioned at an angle of 15 degrees between themselves.

MAMEF pin clamps have monoblock cylindirical structures, and they are fixed to MAMEF body with a special connection system consisting of a sphere (1) and pins (2). Pin clamps on both ends of MAMEF have fourteen different pin inserting holes as being six horizontal (9), four proximal oblique (16) and four distal oblique holes (16). Six pins can be placed in each pin clamp at the same time. Pins can be placed on them at different angles on the same plane at the same time. They allow pin inserting on more than one plane. Each pin is fixed with a setscrew (10). MAMEF pin clamps are moved at angles according to their main body axes, by a special connection system consisting of spheres (1) and pins (2). Both ends of MAMEF have 360 degree rotations, a total of 60 degree flexion-extension as being 30 degree each (30+30), a total of 60 degree varus- valgus as being 30 degree each (30+30). Functions can be performed separately or together, at the same or different time, at one time or gradually in a controlled way. Adjustable free pin clamps (12) can be placed in all pin holes and grooves in the system. They can be placed on three plans, at 360 degrees, at any desired angle, and at any quantity.

Pins can be made of titanium or stainless steel. Their tips are designed as tapered and threaded. They have different diameters, lengths and thread lengths for femur, tibia and humerus. They can be placed in one or two cortex. Pins for translation are the ones having threaded parts starting after 2cm from the smooth tip, and continuing 4 cm.
