Description:
"MODULAR EQUIPMENT OF INFUSION WITH MONITORING OF VITAL SIGNS"

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

5 This Patent of Invention request deals with a new "MODULAR EQUIPMENT OF

INFUSION WITH MONITORING OF VITAL SIGNS"; notably of an equipment carefully designed to be used in hospitals or similar places in which infusion pumps and monitoring of vital signs is needed, constituted by a standard platform capable of receiving further pumping modules; originating a modular equipment that adds several essential lOfunctions inherent in this kind of health institutes.

BRIEF TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF CORRELATED EQUIPMENTS

• Pumps of peristaltic volumetric infusion - they are equipments used to accomplish a volume control of solutions administered to patients, notably enteral and parenteral

15medicaments, in other words, this kind of pump accomplishes the flow control and the volume of drugs and food solution injectable and infused in the patients. In the current models of pumps, there is a case with a bag or flask of solution fixed to a support that makes possible the accomplishment of the control of the infusion tax, volume, time, etc.; this equipment also comprehends a display, a control panel, a propeller system, a supply source in alternating

20current (AC), a RS232interface for data communication of and alarms that inform the situation of progress, as much of the equipment as of the patient; while a supply line is brought to the patient.

• Pumps of syringe infusion - it is destined to the accomplishment of a volume control of solutions administered to patients, particularly parenteral medicaments, specifically those

25bombs make the control of flow and volume of injectable and infused drugs into patients. In the current pumps of syringe infusion there is a case with a compartment for placement of needles, enabling the control of parameters as rate of infusion, volume, time, etc. On the other hand, also includes a display, a control panel, a propulsion system that moves the syringe plunger, a power source in alternating current (AC), a RS232 interface for data

30communication and alarms that inform the progress situation, both equipment and patient, while a supply line is brought to the patient.

• Acquisition of vital signs - made viable by equipment with display, control panel, supply source in alternating current, communications devices like RS232, an exit for monitor e another for printer, and the biosensors are interlinked to the patient. DEFICIENCY OF THE CORRELATED EQUIPMENTS

Although work adequately for the purpose they were designed, because they are different equipments, it is necessary that the ambience were it will be used is prepared to

5receive several equipments, near each other in a same installation place and, once installed its locomotion, by any reason, it is difficult, limiting its use to that place. It is also common use several infusion pumps in an only patient, creating a problem of positioning of the equipments, a condition aggravated by the small size of the rooms or treatment centers, which generates a disordered agglomerate of equipments, complicating the accessibility to the lOpatient. Another problem is that the most part of the hospitals didn't foresee appropriated wirings, having a reduced number of plugs, as well as it is poor the system of backup supply.

OF THE STATE OF THECNIQUE

In the current state of technique, the same inventor of this patent request has requested

15a privilege related to an infusion pump with acquisition of vital signs, which includes in a single case the pump, whose traditional function is to control the volume of solution, and the acquisition of vital signs made viable by sensors connected to patient. To follow, it is reproduced the abstract of the patent request referred as state of technique:

PI - 0303730-4 "Infusion pump with acquisition of vital signs": notably of an

20equipment unique, composed by a single case that gather, functionally and operationally, without any change of "hardware", all the isolated features of the traditional infusion pumps plus the monitoring of vital signs; from this case it is projected the line of application of solution and the cables with biosensors, both for interconnection to the patient; the equipment discloses a single case that receives, concerning the infusion pump, a bag containing the

25solution to be administrate to the patient; which is made by an application line; the infusion pump associates the display, control panel, propeller of pump system, alarms, RS232 interface, exit to the printer and a supply source; still in the same case, without any change of "hardware", the equipment incorporates a monitoring device destined to monitor the vital signs, which receives, besides the components above mentioned, cables with biosensors for

30connection to the patient.

OF THE NEW INVENTION

This new equipment presents as inventive concept the modularity and mobility that add the functions of acquisition of vital signs and infusion devices, with bateries for functioning in case of lack of electric power, each of the modules easily mounted on a standard platform that is the infusion pump, in which the interconnection between said modules is viable by posterior connection rule. ADVANTAGES OF INVENTION

• Flexibility - mobile and modular equipment, it can be configured to better attend the needs of the patient;

• Liberation of space - modules overlapping of a compact way;

• More electric security - attend to the rules pertaining to safety against electrical shock;* Facility of installation - use only a supply plug (AC), can be used both in a serum stick and in any other furniture;

• Versatility - the modules can be assembled in order to attend to the needs of the patients;

• Economy - the equipment is economically more viable, once it shares modules internally, reducing the final value of the equipment, as well the buyer can buy modules separately, ashis needs;

• Expansion - the equipment can bear new modules non available yet, and increase its possibilities of use;

• Control - with the unification of the infusion system with monitoring of vital signs, it is possible to accomplish the control of the infusion, using the vital signs of the patient asfeedback to the system, facilitating the use of infusion pumps in anesthesia, since the doctor doesn't need to be adjusting the infusion rate of the equipment, and the amount of drugs delivered to the patient will be only the necessary, reducing the recovery time;

• Functioning security - the equipment has internal controls that act in case of crash or fail of the main systems, with the purpose of protecting the patient and alerting the users onproblems in the equipment.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The invention will be explained at follow, with reference to the attached drawings, in which the equipment is better represented, in an illustrative and not limiting way: Figure 1 : view in perspective of the modular equipment of infusion with monitoring of vital signs, in the basic version platform for further modules; Figure 2: View in perspective of modular equipment of infusion with monitoring of vital signs, in the basic version with three further modules;

The "MODULAR EQUIPMENT OF INFUSION WITH MONITORING OF VITAL SIGNS", object of the Patent of Invention request, offers the unification of severalequipments of infusion and monitoring of vital signs in a single equipment (1) modular from the standard platform (2) that comprehends the infusion pump (3); originating an equipment (1) that comprehends all the techniques of infusion and resources of acquisition of vital signs, to be mounted and dismounted according to pressing needs.

This modular equipment (1) is composed by a platform (2) that has an infusion pump(3), could being aggregate further modules (M) of pumping, as well as the inclusion of a syringe pump (MS), besides acquisition modules (MA) of vital signs.

More particularly, the equipment (1) composed by the modules (M, MS e MA) above mentioned and fitable in each other has an internal bus (4) connectable each other, providing the distribution of power between these modules (M, MS e MA). The bus (4) also is used topromote the change of data between modules (M, MS e MA), and each module has one individual processing unit (5) duly connected, through the bus (4), the central processing unit

(6) located in the platform (2) that also has a second independent processing unit (7) that remains in "stand-by"; with the purpose of ensuring the operational security of the equipment

(1) in the case of eventual fails or crashes in the main unit (7). On the other hand, there is asecond bus (8) of security data acting in the case of crash in the main bus (4).
