Abstract:
There is described a modular mechanical pressure switch comprising a base module (100) provided with a sensitive part (1) and a first connector (22) for the connection to an external apparatus adapted to receive said connector. Said pressure switch comprises at least one additional module (200) comprising means (201) for the removable connection to the first connector of said base module and a second connector (202), different from the first one, for the connection to another external apparatus adapted to receive said second connector.

Claims:
CLAIMS

1. A modular mechanical pressure switch comprising a base module (100) provided with a sensitive part (1) and a first connector (22) for the connection to an external apparatus adapted to receive said connector, characterized in that it comprises at least one additional module (200) comprising means (201) for the removable connection to the first connector of said base module and a second connector (202), different from the first one, for the connection to another external apparatus adapted to receive said second connector.

2. A modular mechanical pressure switch according to claim 1, characterized in that it comprises a plurality of reciprocally interchangeable, additional modules (200).

3. A modular mechanical pressure switch according to claim 2, characterized in that said first connector is a Faston connector.

A modular mechanical pressure switch according to claim 2 or 3, characterized in that said plurality of reciprocally interchangeable, additional modules (200) comprises a first additional module wherein the second connector is of the Ml 2 type, and a second additional module wherein the second connector is of the DIN type.

A modular mechanical pressure switch according to claim 1, characterized in that said base module comprises a cap (2) carrying said first connector (22) and said sensitive part (1) comprises a hollow body (13) comprising a membrane (14) on which a fluid of the pressurized system to be controlled acts, and a switch (30) which can be coupled to said membrane and connected to said first connector, said base module (100) comprising a cover (40) where said cap (2) can be accommodated, said cover (40) being adapted to be coupled to said hollow body (13) in order to ensure the electrical connection between said switch and said first connector.

A modular mechanical pressure switch according to claim 5, characterized in that it comprises means (18, 17, 31, 32) for the adjustable coupling of said membrane with said switch, said means comprising a pin (18) adjacent the membrane and arranged substantially orthogonal to the membrane, a plate (17) engaged with said pin and adapted to act on said switch (30) and a spring (31) axial to the pin and adjustable by a threaded dowel (32).

The present invention relates to a modular mechanical pressure switch.

Mechanical pressure switches for fluid pressure measurement are known. Said pressure switches comprise a part provided with a membrane and/or piston for detecting the fluid pressure, better referred to as sensitive part or sensor, and a part for the connection to an external apparatus for transmitting the pressure detected, better referred to as connector.

The pressure switches currently available on the market consist of a single body which comprises the above-mentioned two parts in a single piece, i.e. the sensitive part and a single connector.

The user of the pressure switch need different pressure switches if he/she uses apparatuses with different connectors, which implies a considerable waste of money.

It is the object of the present invention to provide a mechanical pressure switch which differs from those known, in particular a pressure switch which has an interchangeable connector.

According to the present invention, said object is achieved by a modular mechanical pressure switch comprising a base module provided with a sensitive part and a first connector for the connection to an external apparatus adapted to receive said connector, characterized in that it comprises at least one additional module comprising means for the removable connection to the first connector of said base module and a second connector, different from the first one, for the connection to another external apparatus adapted to receive said second connector.

These and other features of the present invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description of a practical embodiment thereof, shown by way of a non-limiting example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

With reference to figures 1, 1a and 2, there is shown the base module 100 of the modular mechanical pressure switch according to the present invention. The base module 100 comprises a first part or sensitive part 1 and a second part or connection part or cap 2.

The sensitive part 1 comprises a threaded part 11 for the coupling to the pressurized system to be controlled. The threaded part 11 comprises a channel 12 for inputting the fluid to be controlled; the threaded part 11 is integral with an internally hollow body 13. From the bottom upwards, body 13 comprises a membrane 14, preferably having a circular shape, accommodated within body 13 and on which the fluid entering from channel 12 acts, as shown in figure 1. Membrane 14 is arranged substantially orthogonal to the symmetry axis of the channel. Body 13 also comprises a rubber plate 15 therein, having an annular shape and arranged in the central part of membrane 14, and a guiding plate 16, having an annular shape and arranged on plate 15. A top plate 17, preferably made of rubber and having an annular shape, is arranged onto the guiding plate 16; a pin 18 is accommodated within the channel consisting of the holes of plate 15, guiding plate 16 and top plate 17, so as to be arranged substantially orthogonal to membrane 14. The top plate 17 engages pin 18 so that any axial movement of the pin causes plate 17 to raise or lower.

According to a variation, in place of membrane 14, body 13 may comprise a piston 214 which directly engages the top plate 17 without the need of using plate 15 and pin 18, as shown in figure la; piston 214 is made so as to obtain a zone therein for inserting an annular seal 211 arranged between the body of piston 214 and channel 12.

Onto guiding plate 16 and top plate 17, there is arranged a part 19 carrying a switch, preferably a microswitch 30; part 19 has an annular shape, and within the central hole there is arranged a spring 31 compressed by a threaded dowel 32 arranged on spring 31.

Elastic pins 33 are provided inside part 19 for correctly accommodating the microswitch 30. Part 19 is better shown in figure 3; it can be seen that the same part 19 comprises a seat 191 for accommodating the microswitch 30. The latter, better shown in figure 4, comprises contacts

301 for the coupling to suitable contacts 22 of the base module, and a button

302 on which the top plate 17 acts, moved by pin 18 or piston 214.

The connection part or cap 2 comprises, in the central part, a threaded bushing 21 in which the dowel 32 is inserted in order to compress spring 31. Cap 2 carries the contacts or terminals 22 which form a first connector for the connection of the base module 100 to an external apparatus. Cap 2, as better shown in figures 5 and 6, comprises three cavities 25 for accommodating the contacts or terminals 22, so that they are directly connected to the contacts 301 of microswitch 30.

A threaded cover 40 is also provided, better shown in figure 7, for attaching the connection part 2 to the sensitive part 1. The body 13 of the sensitive part 1 is threaded for the coupling to the threaded cover 40; thereby, parts 16, 30 and 2 are held together.

In the pressure switch according to the invention, a fluid entering channel 12 acts on membrane 14 which transmits the displacement thereof through pin 18 to the top plate 17 or on piston 214 which directly acts on the top plate 17; the latter acts on the button 302 of microswitch 30 in order to activate or deactivate it. The action of pin 18 or piston 214 can be adjusted by means of spring 31, which is compressed by the threaded dowel 32.

Cap 2 preferably carries three contacts 22, thus forming a Faston connector.

The modular mechanical pressure switch also comprises at least one additional module, or second module, consisting of a removable adapter 200 which allows the mechanical pressure switch to be coupled to other apparatuses having other types of electrical contacts, differing from those of the base module 100, as shown in figures 8-13. Adapter 200 comprises means 201 for the electrical connection to the electrical contacts 22 of the base module 100 and contacts 202 for connecting the modular mechanical pressure switch to an external apparatus which supports said type of electrical connection.

The modular mechanical pressure switch according to the invention preferably consists of a kit comprising, in addition to the base module 100, several adapters or second modules 200 with various connectors for the electrical connection to different apparatuses. The several modules 200 are all interchangeable, i.e. it is possible to select the module 200 with the suitable connector for the apparatus to which the pressure switch must be connected; the module 200 with said type of connector may be removed if the pressure switch is connected to a different apparatus and is replaced by another module 200 having a connector different from the previous one.

For example, the kit may comprise the base module 100 with Faston connector, a first additional module or first adapter 200 with an Ml 2 connector and a second additional module or second adapter 200 with DIN connector, preferably DIN 43650.

In fact, as shown in figures 8-10, if the base module has contacts of a Faston connector, the first adapter 200 comprises means 201 for the electrical connection to said Faston connector of the base module 100 and contacts 202 to provide an Ml 2 connector for the coupling to an external apparatus. Means 201 comprise cavities with metal walls adapted to be coupled to the contacts 22 of the connector of base module 100.

Again, if the base module has contacts with a Faston connector, a second adapter 200 comprises means 201 for the electrical connection to said Faston connector of the base module 100 and a contact 202 to provide a DIN 43650 connector for the coupling to an external apparatus, as shown in figures 11-13. Means 201 comprise cavities with metal walls adapted to be coupled to the contacts 22 of the connector of base module 100.
