Abstract:
A moisture removal device and a hand dryer according to an embodiment of the present invention comprise: an ultrasound output unit provided with a plurality of ultrasound transducer arrays; and a control unit for controlling the operation of the ultrasound output unit. Incident ultrasound output from the ultrasound output unit towards an object is superposed with reflected ultrasound reflected from the surface of the object, thereby forming a standing wave. Moisture is removed from the surface of the object or a hand by using the principle that water drops are fixed in space at nodes of the standing wave. Such a method nearly eliminates the possibility of transmitting contaminants such as bacteria or viruses, and consumes less energy than existing hand dryers that evaporate moisture by directly generating wind. In addition, the device does not have physically driven components such as a motor, and thus has a long life expectancy and is easy to maintain. Moreover, since ultrasound outside the audible frequency range is used, there is no noise and hearing loss can be prevented.
